A true team mentality is critical to effective and compassionate care. All team members are responsible for representing the best interests of the pet as much as they can.

- The caregiver(s) – the family unit who cares for the patient. The caregivers have the final say in all treatment decisions.
- The veterinarian – directs medical care and provides expert advice to the team. The veterinarian monitors the patient's status and well-being, and facilitates the smooth implementation of a personalized care plan.
The Hospice Team can also include:
- Other veterinary professionals and clinics who may help care for the patient, including but not limited to the referring veterinary practice, emergency veterinary practices, and rehabilitation and physical therapy specialists.
- The caregiver support team – pet loss grief counsellors, chaplains, and licensed clinical therapists ensure that the family’s emotional and spiritual needs are being met.
- Extended family and close family friends.
- Pet sitters, groomers and other pet care professionals who help ensure the patient’s comfort and well-being.
- Animal communicators and other members of the community whom the family wants to be involved.
- Veterinary aftercare providers who can help answer questions about decisions to be made after the death of a beloved pet.
