DR. LAUREN E. BAILEY
BVM&S, CVMMP
Owner/Veterinarian
Like most veterinarians, Dr. Lauren has always had a love for animals. However, her career path wasn't always an obvious one. She has been riding horses since the age of 8 years old and competed in the Arabian and dressage circuits during her teenage years. Despite her family and friends telling her that she should be a veterinarian when she grows up, she dismissed it for a long time because she didn't want to have to put animals to sleep. She found an interest in orthodontics and spent her summers working at the local orthodontics office for years to prepare for a future career in that same field. It wasn't until after she had completed an undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Western Ontario that she finally came to her senses and decided that she should be working with animals. She had always been intrigued by equine rehabilitation, and had even taken a massage course to treat her own horses. She particularly enjoyed watching the medical manipulation sessions that her own horse, Moonie, would get for his back problems. She started researching what it takes to be an equine chiropractor, and there were only two options - become a human chiropractor or a veterinarian. That choice was easy.
Dr. Lauren graduated from The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies located in Edinburgh, Scotland. During her studies she developed a keen interest in animal behaviour and veterinary acupuncture. She travelled to France numerous times to be closely mentored by animal behaviourist Sarah Bird. Sarah is well known for her work with camels and was the first person in France to train them using positive reinforcement techniques. During her final year of school Dr. Lauren also completed the Mixed Animal Veterinary Acupuncture course at the Chi Institute of Europe located in Spain.
After veterinary school, Dr. Lauren spent a year working in northern Ontario at a mixed animal practice. It was there that her perspective on euthanasia really changed, and she found meaning in making the experience as comfortable as possible for her patients and their grieving families. The pull toward acupuncture and Eastern medicine also kept tugging at her, so she decided to pursue a career path that she was truly passionate about. She completed the Equine Medical Manipulation course at the Integrative Veterinary Medical Institute in Florida, finally achieving the qualification that brought her to veterinary school in the first place. Bailey Mobile Veterinary Services was born soon after.
In her free time Dr. Lauren enjoys spending time with her horses Bart and Moonie, sailing, travelling, painting pottery, and reading non-fiction books. She hopes to be adding a canine friend to her family in the near future!
